Jennifer L. Chandos, Certified Commercial Appraiser, has underwritten over two billion dollars in commercial real estate. Clients include Fortune 500 Companies such as McDonalds, Chevron and Texaco, as well as leading area FDIC lenders, local municipalities, and area law firms. Property types appraised include office, retail, industrial, multi-family, and special purpose properties. Special purpose properties types include hotel, service station, convenience store, truck stop, multi-plex cinema, and retirement center appraisals.
The savings and loan crisis ushered in sweeping reform to the appraisal industry. At this time the US Congress established federal regulation of the industry and the Financial Institution Recovery and Reform Act, (FIRREA). Chandos was certified under the new laws and higher standards established as a result of FIRREA. These laws require a full audit of the coursework and the work product of Licensed and Certified Appraisers, as well as passing a comprehensive state examinations, and on-going continuing education. She is presently an associate of the Appraisal Institute and the Foundation of Real Estate Appraisers.
Chandos is one of the few commercial appraisers in the region with a professional background from the brokerage and legal communities. This background affords an insiders track into market dynamics and allows the preperation of reports with attention to detail of the legal rights and responsibilities of all parties involved.
Chandos is also one of the few commercial appraisers in the region who is bi-lingual in Spanish. Chandos works closely with SBA lenders to fund projects in both the Spanish speaking and Asian communities of San Diego. Flagship projects in the Mexican resort community of Cabo San Lucas and the South Cape area include proposed luxury hotels and proposed residential subdivision developments.
Academic distinctions include being an American Field Service Scholar in South America, a Georgetown Scholar in Washington D.C., graduating ranked in the top 5% in the School of Economics at Portland State University, and post graduate studies in Asia. Chandos earned her B.A. in Economics while working at the U.S. Attorney's office and the Law Offices of Stoel, Rives, Boley, Jones & Grey conducting litigation support.
As Research Director of Grubb & Ellis Commercial Brokerage, Chandos advised a staff of 30 commercial brokers with rapid fire competitive market analysis, and developed the Real Estate Market Report, an annual economic forecast of Commercial Real Estate, and was publisher of the region's Shopping Center Guide. Chandos studied with the Appraisal Institute while working with a leading regional appraisal firm before commencing private practice.
